Carlo Emilio Tortarolo

A Venetian conductor and pianist, he made his debut with Verdi’s ‘Traviata’ in the season of the Teatro Coccia in Novara (2021) and with the stage production of ‘El Cimarron’ by H.W. Henze in the Theatre&Musique season in Nîmes (2022). In 2020 he founded the Modena-based ensemble ‘Forma Libera’, a guest ensemble in the programming of the Gioventù Musicale di Modena seasons, with which he curated the programme ‘Ascolti dallo Studio | Diari Veneziani’, broadcast in June 2021 on Sky Classica HD.
A cultural manager, he currently holds the position of Secretary General of the ‘Bartolomeo Cristofori’ International Piano Festival in Padua and collaborates with organisations such as the Fondazione Teatro Coccia and the ‘Claudio Scimone’ International Competition.
Previously, from 2017 to 2021, he held the position of Artistic and Production Secretary of the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo and that of Orchestra Manager and Head of Production of the same Festival’s Philharmonic. As a music critic, he has been writing since 2022 for Quinte Parallele, one of the most established young publications in music journalism.
Within the associative sphere, he has held the role of President of the association “Juvenice: Giovani amici della Fenice” since December 2021, an under-35 association for sharing and promoting policies for the generational renewal of audiences on the Venetian and international scene, itself a member of the European association Juvenilia (Charlemagne Youth Prize, 2018), and that of Representative for the Veneto Region of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO – AIGU.
Alongside his artistic training, he has a scientific university background, having graduated in 2016 in Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University of Padua, with a master’s research thesis on the application of Markov Theory in the field of Operations Research.
