THE 3RD ITALIAN YOUTH FORUM IS COMING: 2021 NEXT GENERATION YOU
The Italian Youth Forum is the major annual event of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO. Now in its third edition, it brings together international-level guests from the world of institutions, universities, culture, research and innovation, in a space for discussion and sharing with the Association’s more than 300 under-35 members, young women and men connected from every part of Italy.
The Italian Youth Forum Parma 2021 Next Generation You will take place on 27 March 2021, streamed live from Parma, UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and Italian Capital of Culture 2020+2021, and aims to reach and involve an even wider audience of young people, who will be able to gather ideas and proposals to bring back to their communities. The event is held under the patronage of: the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the University of Parma. In collaboration with Parma Italian Capital of Culture 2020+21, Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
A day-long event in digital format, rich in reflections, insights and in-depth discussions on the theme of sustainability and beyond, interpreted through the eyes and drive of the new generations.
Each Talk will feature national and international guests, with musical performances and moments of interaction with the audience. The aim is to channel attention and create connections between ideas, institutions, businesses and experts in order to propose solutions to today’s emergencies, which will be enshrined in the Next Generation You Manifesto, shared by all the participants as a concrete and joint commitment to implementing good practices and raising awareness of the themes of the UN 2030 Agenda, which will be presented to the Government as a proposal for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The event will be streamed live on AIGU’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, with simultaneous translation into Italian sign language. It will be broadcast from the Digital Sustainability Studio at the Labirinto della Masone, a newly created television studio designed for hybrid formats. The themes of the Forum
Environmental sustainability, food, education, urban regeneration and culture as an essential resource for socio-economic development. These are the themes that will be addressed within the programme, structured around 4 thematic Talks: A School for All, Feeding the Future, My City, The New Deal of Culture.
Each theme is explored by national and international guests, experts and younger voices, both in person and connecting remotely, to take stock of today’s emergencies and open up future scenarios for a fairer and more balanced society: how can we define our era, what is its genealogy and what tools do we have to rethink and reinvent the world? The current scenario will be analysed through all the disciplines vital to this reflection: economics, education, anthropology, architecture, design and music will provide interpretative keys and elements to build a new horizon.
The programme opens with the inspirational Round Table “Our Common Home”: the conscious message of young people comes through loud and clear to all the world’s governments. There is no time left to wait: we are the last generation that can do something to save our planet.
Feeding the Future
We are what we eat, but what we eat also reflects the world we live in and the tomorrow we choose to build. We want to reflect on food systems that are more sustainable, socially inclusive and economically fair, starting from a conscious and active consumer, a “food citizen”.
A School for All
We want to reduce inequalities through an innovative design methodology capable of making the new generations more aware. We intend to open up our idea of school to anyone who shares the same goals: making school more inclusive and spreading opportunities, leaving no one behind.
You Are My City
Environmental, economic and social regeneration is not a utopia but a process that can be concretely applied. We want to promote art, improve access to resources and urban enhancement within the urban context. We aim to connect space, identity and community, to create a more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable city.
The New Deal of Culture
We are the pioneers of an epochal transformation and experimenters with multimedia tools as keys to accessing and enjoying the many spheres of culture. What will the modes of perception, relationship and interaction be after 2020?
Next Generation You Manifesto
The past year has inevitably led us to reflect on the emergencies of the present. The critical issues that have emerged are only the latest in a series of unmistakable signals warning us that we need to restore a balance with the natural, social and economic system.
AIGU felt the urgency to step up to the front line and announce a number of proposals for young people and culture in a public letter, following which the Ministry for Youth Policies requested a position paper for the purposes of the NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), a first version of which has already been presented to the Council of Ministers.
The process of developing and refining the proposals, now under way through digital Workshops bringing together members and expert guests, will produce a first draft to be presented at the Italian Youth Forum in Parma, the main stage of the journey.
The Forum will be an opportunity to discuss the contents with the invited guests, the audience, institutions and businesses, with the aim of enshrining the proposed solutions in an official document shared by all the participants: the Next Generation You Manifesto, a concrete and joint commitment to proposing innovative measures in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
AIGU intends to become an ever stronger national and local point of reference for youth and cultural policies in our country and beyond.
