On Saturday 19 March, at the “LUISS Guido Carli” University in Rome, “Farò cultura” was presented: the 2022 national EDU programme of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO.
This project aims to create new synergies between institutions, schools and innovative businesses, with a special focus on sustainable development and youth entrepreneurship.
Farò cultura will be the sixth edition of AIGU’s national EDU programme, this year dedicated to the Faro Convention: the title reflects the educational as well as social need for culture, especially in the wake of the psychological impact of the pandemic on the younger generations. Indeed, beyond seeking to provide quality, equitable and inclusive education, Farò Cultura is in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2020 Agenda and with the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
AIGU President Chiara Bocchio, during the opening press conference, described the EDU project as follows: “The overall objective is to train young people as aware citizens through quality education that enables them to identify and recognise the cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) of the territory they inhabit – not imposed, but recognised – and to experience it, acknowledging its importance for the well-being of the individual and of the community as a whole. The workshops therefore have a re-creative purpose, in the twofold sense of the term: creating something new and recreating oneself, starting from the care and construction of heritage”.
The guests in attendance were: Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Director of the Council of Europe (Venice Office), the Hon. Barbara Florida, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Maria Mazza of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, Rossella di Gioia of the Liceo artistico Caravaggio in Rome, and Prof. Lucio Argano, Director General of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma – Implementing Body of Rome City of Film UNESCO and project partner.
From 24 March the EDU projects will begin, through specific workshops divided by region and centred on different themes, all of which share Culture as their common denominator.
