Now more than ever, schools are going through a difficult time due to the COVID19 pandemic, which has made life in the classroom anything but normal and has imposed the use of different teaching models and new technological tools, leaving young people physically and humanly distant from their main environment for growth: the classroom.
The initiative on 23 January 2021, promoted by the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU) with the patronage of the Municipality of Lecce, aims to engage and inspire students of all ages (from lower and upper secondary schools to universities) on the themes of the 17 Goals of the 2030 Agenda (UN, 2015), which describe the greatest challenges in ensuring a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous and equitable life on Earth for everyone, now and in the future. In particular, it will be the occasion to launch the new EDU National Programme 2020/2021, an educational project promoted by AIGU and aimed at schools and universities throughout Italy, which since 2016 has involved over 5,500 students in workshop activities carried out in collaboration with private and public bodies. Alongside the EDU project, which is supported by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Bank of Italy, AIGU will launch the #Adottaunprogetto fundraising campaign in support of the EDU workshops, to involve citizens and companies in a spirit of active cross-cutting collaboration. Anyone can become a protagonist of the workshop in their own city and thus help enrich the educational experience of our students.
Young people will have the opportunity to engage directly with the people behind the projects through practical examples and activities. With this in mind, the event, which will take place online and can be followed via streaming on the Association’s social media channels will have a twofold format.
The first part will take the form of a “radio interview”, with a moderator introducing the guests, and will open with speeches by the Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina, the Minister for Youth Policies and Sport Vincenzo Spadafora, the ASviS Spokesperson Enrico Giovannini, and the Councillor for Education, Training and Employment of the Puglia Region, Sebastiano Leo. These will be followed by talks focusing on innovative teaching (Daniele Manni – Teacher), gender equality (Maria Rita Costanza – Founder of Murgia Valley) and the environment (Giovanni Chimienti – Marine biologist and National Geographic Explorer). A double interview run by the students, based on the “Le Iene” format, will explore the policies and plans of the councillors: Alessandro Delli Noci, Councillor of the Puglia Region for Economic Development and Youth Policies, and Paolo Foresio, Councillor of the Municipality of Lecce responsible for Entertainment, Tourism, Sport, Sports Facilities, Economic Development, and Production and Craft Activities.
The second part will actively involve participants through new immersive technologies and gamification activities, a tool capable of conveying, through “play”, messages that encourage socially aware behaviour. There will also be a musical moment with Maestro Paolo Palazzo, an internationally renowned composer from Puglia and author of film scores, who orchestrated and conducted the song “Custodire” by Renzo Rubino – feat. Serena Rossi, at the 68th “Sanremo Festival”.

The event, held online, is #plasticfree and #paperfree, in line with the themes of the 2030 Agenda.
On 25 September 2015, the member states of the United Nations adopted General Assembly resolution A/RES/70/1: “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, which identifies 17 new Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved over the period 2015-2030. These aim to strike a balance between the three dimensions of sustainable development — economy, environment and society — with attention to poverty, inequality, food security, health, sustainable consumption and production, employment, infrastructure, the management of natural resources, climate change, as well as gender equality, the building of a peaceful and inclusive society, access to justice and accountable institutions.
The event will be streamed live on the Facebook and YouTube profiles of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO, with interactive activities on its Instagram profile. Participation is free.
