It will be led by the new President Chiara Bocchio and an all-female board
Rome, 5 May 2021. On Saturday 17 April the General Assembly of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU) took place — one of the most important moments in the life of the association, lasting around three hours, during which over 120 members from every region of Italy had the opportunity to meet virtually. During this intense gathering, Chiara Bocchio was elected the new President of AIGU, supported by an all-women board: Vice President Simona Ferrante, Secretary General Giulia Tomasi and Stefania Melandri as Treasurer.
The new Board, operational from the outset, met on 4 May with the President of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, Franco Bernabè, and the Secretary General, Enrico Vicenti, to take stock of the activities carried out by AIGU so far and the future projects to pursue.
Antonio Libonati, outgoing President of AIGU, stated: “A new era is beginning, with the new President Chiara Bocchio at the very forefront. Chiara is a special person and will lead the Association superbly, but AIGU’s true strength lies in each of its members. I leave behind an Association with some aspects still to improve, but full of enthusiasm and with important projects to work on.”
Chiara Bocchio, the new President of AIGU, commented: “We have created a family bound together by shared passions and a common project: passing on to the younger generations in Italy the values that underpinned the founding of UNESCO. In this first year of mine, I will work to ensure that the Association focuses on key concepts such as empathy, knowledge and recognition. In particular, it will be important to strengthen the synergies with UNESCO, the CNI, the UNESCO designations and the international network of young people active on UNESCO themes.”
Also during the General Assembly, the members voted to assign the new roles within the Executive Council. AIGU’s current coordinators are: Andrea Filippone and Laura D’Ascanio for National Coordination, Ginevra Paolovna Gadioli for the Coordination of the North area, Marta Lelli for the Coordination of the Centre area, Chiara Ficarra for the Coordination of the South area, Chiara Balestri for the Coordination of the EDU project, Gianfranco Sanna for Fundraising Coordination, Marco Cerverizzo for the coordination of Graphic Design, Marialisa Panu for the Coordination of Website and Press Communication, and Eleonora Vita for the Coordination of Social Media Communication.
Antonio Castano and Giovanni Cedrone remain on the Supervisory Board, where they welcome Fiorella Fiore.
