AIGU took part once again this year in the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum, from 13 to 15 November. Our member Giulio Del Giudice was in fact selected as the Italian delegate for the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO.
Since August he has been working with delegates from the UNESCO Europe and North America regions and from all over the world to develop the global recommendations on climate change, which were approved following a meeting with the Youth Ministers of 27 countries. The presence of the Youth Ministers was a first in the history of the UNESCO Youth Forums and is an approach that will certainly be taken up again in the future.
The event brought together 173 delegates from 154 countries with very diverse backgrounds and profiles, all committed to making a difference in achieving Goal 13 of the 2030 Agenda.
UNESCO offered participants full access to the “maison”, allowing them to explore, work and understand the work carried out at the headquarters.
Gabriela Ramos, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, and Souria Saad-Zoi, Head of UNESCO’s Youth Section, guided and facilitated the participants’ activities and needs.
The delegates had the opportunity to network, listen to global climate change activists, hold discussions with the Youth Ministers, attend the Seventeen concert and put forward proposals regarding the UNESCO Programme and Budget for 2026-2029. There was also the opportunity to present projects to combat climate change, and the secretariat selected the 5 best ones, which were then presented to all participants.
By attending the sessions of the General Conference, AIGU delegate Giulio del Giudice had the opportunity to meet our Ambassador to UNESCO Liborio Stellino and the Italian permanent delegation.
