A new, prestigious chapter has been added to the history of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO. On Monday 23 March 2026, a national delegation of AIGU was received at the Quirinale Palace, marking a moment of fundamental recognition for the work carried out by young members across Italy.
President Gianluca Buoncore, together with Vice President Eleonora Vita, Secretary General Alessandro Luciani and Treasurer Silvio Rossini, met Ambassador Fabio Cassese, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
During the meeting, the representatives outlined the Association’s mission and the many projects active across the country. The heart of the meeting was the official presentation of the Tenth Anniversary Document The Next 10, the programmatic manifesto that encapsulates the vision and concrete proposals of the “UNESCO Generation” for the future of the country and of cultural heritage.
A recognition of the value of young people
Ambassador Cassese expressed deep appreciation for AIGU’s commitment to the active involvement of the new generations. Among the key points that emerged:
- International Inspiration: The invitation to pursue the mission of becoming a reference model for young people worldwide.
- Institutional Dialogue: The outcome of the meeting will be formally reported to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, a testament to the importance that institutions attach to the contribution of young people.
- Strategic Growth: The hope for an increasingly influential presence in national and international decision-making processes.
This milestone is not only an institutional honour, but confirmation that the path we have taken is the right one. The value of our work is fully recognised at the highest levels, and it is a success that belongs to every single member of our community.

For AIGU, entering the Quirinale is not a point of arrival but a powerful incentive to continue, with even greater energy, the protection and promotion of UNESCO values.
