International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

AIGU Lombardia, together with the UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality and Women´s Rights in the Multicultural Society, is organising an online event to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2021 of the World Economic Forum, partly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the time needed to close the global gender gap has increased by an entire generation (+36 years compared with the 2020 report). But the pandemic has highlighted other critical aspects of women’s position in contemporary society.

The event will be streamed live on our Facebook and Youtube pages. The conference will consist of presentation sessions, discussions and a round table, with contributions from figures from the academic, associative and institutional worlds.

The meeting will be divided into two sessions. In the morning, prejudice, violence and discrimination against women in the workplace and in adultery will be analysed, framed in a historical-legal perspective.  The talks will be given by the UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in the Multicultural Society of the University of Insubria. In the afternoon, the role of women in contemporary society will be examined, presenting for example concrete case studies from the Como textile industry and from social media. To conclude, there will be a round table with a wide range of contributions from associations such as ESN Italia and HR Women, from the E-Learning Lab of the Università della Svizzera italiana, and, as guest of honour, the recently appointed Focal Point of Como UNESCO Creative City.
