The Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU), through its members in the Valle d’Aosta Region, presents an evening of educational concert-readings based on selected cantos of Dante’s Divine Comedy, around the pairing of “Dante and culture”.
The summer cycle of travelling lecturæ Dantis in various municipalities of the Valle d’Aosta, entitled ItinerDante, was conceived in 2021 by the Valle d’Aosta group of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU) together with the Natalino Sapegno Centre for Historical and Literary Studies in Morgex, to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death and to lead the audience towards a collective reflection on the beauty of the verses and the ever-relevant messages of the Divine Comedy, in an atmosphere of colours and music capable of letting the emotions released by the text flow with full force.
Given the success of the two previous editions, this summer too a series of travelling concert-readings has been organised in unconventional venues full of charm and magic, to celebrate the Supreme Poet: genuine cultural and musical journeys, each different from the other, featuring a reading with recitation and commentary by the AIGU Valle d’Aosta regional coordinator Antonello Pistritto (voice), Professor Jean Louis Crestani (commentary) and the musician Daniel Curtaz (cello).
Reading Dante aloud has been, since the days of Boccaccio, a collective ritual, a moment in which society pauses and, on the one hand, experiences the beauty of the Poet’s verses and, on the other, reflects on the powerful and ever-relevant messages of the Comedy. Reading Dante means singing his words, which carry a musicality of their own. The cello, whose timbre closely resembles the male human voice, is the perfect instrument to accompany the singing, creating an interweaving of colours and music capable of letting the emotions of the text flow with full force.
