The Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU), in collaboration with Unicoop Etruria (Perugia 3 Members’ Section) and the Rome-born participatory project ReTree, is proud to announce the launch of ReTree Perugia.
Supported by the patronage of the Municipality of Perugia, the aim is to launch a tree-planting campaign in various neighbourhoods of the Perugia area, starting with the San Sisto district. The project does not just want to plant trees, but to sow awareness and love for our territory. Every tree we plant will be a commitment to the future, a green lung that will give beauty and oxygen back to the neighbourhoods. It is an initiative that starts from the grassroots, but has a positive impact on an entire community.
ReTree began as a project in Rome and has 3 main objectives:
- Re-engaging citizens, involving the residents of a given neighbourhood and raising awareness of the importance of the environmental theme, the heart of the project itself;
- Replanting trees where they are no longer present, enhancing and bringing urban greenery to life;
- Being replicable, so that any neighbourhood Association or Committee can develop it in their own area.
We want this project to belong to the citizens. That is why every tree will be adopted by a citizen who will become its official guardian.
The area identified for this first phase was not chosen at random: during the “Settimana della Custodia” (Guardianship Week) and the “Puliamo il Mondo” (Clean Up the World) campaign, the AIGU Umbria team, together with friends from Legambiente Perugia and Valli del Tevere, worked with dedication to clean up this area, preparing it to host this project.
