The EDU labs of Valle d’Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige, Umbria and Molise are among the projects selected under the European Foodwave call, coordinated by the Municipality of Milan, which will be presented on Saturday 5 June at 5:00 pm at this LINK to coincide with World Environment Day.
Starting from the perceived lack of attention and awareness towards sustainability and the impact of agri-food industrial processes in their communities, each group of AIGU volunteers has defined an educational programme tailored to the specific needs of their own area, turning the discussion into a 360-degree experience for students and the school community.
The 4 regional EDU labs take place in different formats and in different urban environments: Aosta, capital of the region of the same name, a major tourist attraction in the northern mountain landscape; Riva del Garda, considered mainly a local tourist attraction thanks to its position on the shore of Lake Garda; two towns in Umbria, Orvieto and Assisi, mostly renowned for their historical and artistic setting; and Larino, a town in inland Molise known above all for its agricultural production.
The regional labs taking place in these days align with the following fields of action of the European Foodwave call and, in particular, focus on the following Sustainable Development Goals:
Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
- Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
- Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- Goal 13: Promote action, at all levels, to combat climate change.
The areas where our labs are being activated are locked within a common stereotype that regards the landscape as destined to last forever, regardless of any consideration of the consumption of soil and resources associated with protecting their territories.
In Aosta, for example, the gap between past generations and young students lies in the failure to pass on the know-how of living the mountain landscape.
In Trentino, the common perception of the tourist and gastronomic offering and of our culinary traditions calls for a different approach, tracing back to a more authentic bond with the territory.
In Umbria, the multi-faceted approach to human settlements will unlock innovative perspectives on the meaning of sustainable cities and environments.
Finally, in Molise, the food blockchain will be analysed in order to highlight any harmful and unnatural steps in the food production process. With these criteria we will influence our students’ way of living, leading them to consider different habits and actions in their daily routine in order to preserve our current environment.
