The Language of Light 2021 – Verona: prima inter pictas. Online seminar from the Training Room of the Order of Architects of Verona, 14 May, from 2:30 pm

This is the title of the multidisciplinary seminar organised by OPIFICIO DELLA LUCE in collaboration with the Order of Architects of Verona. The themes at the heart of the meeting – which takes place online from the Order’s Training Room from 2:30 pm until around 6 pm – are the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage and the role that high-quality lighting and other electronic and digital technologies can play in this field and in that of research. The seminar is divided into four parts.
1. Time to open – It begins with contributions from Laura Di Stefano, vice president of the Order of Architects, Sergio Macchioni, founding partner of OPIFICIO DELLA LUCE, and Vincenzo Tiné, superintendent for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Verona, Vicenza and Rovigo.
2. Time to remember – Then it is the turn of Ferdinando Forlati and Andrea Aloisi, members of the Culture Commission of the Order of Architects, who explain how they approached a case study such as the architectural and pictorial restoration work on the Case Mazzanti in Piazza delle Erbe in Verona.
3. Time for technique – This is followed by the presentation of several examples of the use of digital technologies for the enhancement of the project. The experts discussing lighting are Diego Zappa of OPIFICIO DELLA LUCE and Giorgio Butturini, while Eugenio Perinelli, project manager at Ximula, and Andrea Brogni, scientific director of Alma Artis Accademia Belle Arti in Pisa, will speak respectively
4. Time for culture – After a coffee break, the seminar resumes with the final four contributions. The first two are by Petra Hanàkova and Riccardo Battiferro Bertocchi, who will focus on some historical aspects of Verona’s architectural and artistic heritage. The other two, by Nicoletta Biondo and Marco Tonon, also take their cue from the theme of the ‘urbs picta’ to draw attention to the Faro Convention, an initiative launched by the Council of Europe in the autumn of 2005 and now ratified by 20 member states of the Council of Europe, including Italy, the first among the founding countries of the European Union. The Convention calls for the recognition and protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage so that it can be passed on to future generations, and among its objectives are dialogue between administrations and territories, and the grassroots flourishing of communities of citizens who preserve places, customs, traditions, works, good practices etc. otherwise destined to be forgotten.
