First AIGU Assembly 2016
Two years after the establishment of the Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO (today the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO), the first National Assembly was organised in 2016. Two days of meetings in the presence of the main institutions in the field, with the aim of outlining the programmatic guidelines of an ambitious multi-year work plan and formalising the activation of important strategic partnerships.
More than two hundred young members aged between 20 and 35, including students, researchers, artists, professionals, managers and entrepreneurs, gathered in Rome on Friday 15 January – in the morning at the Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana Giovanni Treccani, in the afternoon in the Sala Zuccari of Palazzo Giustiniani at the Senate of the Republic – and on Saturday 16 January, at the Università degli Studi Niccolò Cusano, for a series of face-to-face meetings and dedicated workshops. The Tuscany region will take part in the Assembly in the capital.

Speakers at the meeting in the Senate included: Dario Franceschini, Minister of MIBACT; Stefania Giannini, Minister of MIUR; Eric Falt, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information; Giovanni Puglisi, President of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO; Rosa Maria Di Giorgi, Senator, Secretary of the Council of the Presidency of the Senate and member of the 7th Standing Committee on Culture; Massimo Bray, Director General of the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani; Maria Paola Azzario, President of FICLU; Alessio Pascucci, Vice President of the Association of Italian UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Gianluca Callipo, National Coordinator of ANCI Giovani; Alessandro Micheli, National President of Giovani Imprenditori Confcommercio; Giorgia Abeltino, Director of Public Policy, Google Cultural Institute; Stefano Pighini, President of LVenture Group; Fabio Fortuna, Rector of the Università Niccolò Cusano; Antonio Venece, Director of IED Roma; Carlo Ratti, Director of the MIT Senseable City Laboratory; Luciano Vanni, Editorial Director of “Turismo Culturale”.
To show their closeness and support to the young members, a group of exceptional artists also took part, including Paolo Fresu, Davide Boosta Dileo and Vittorio Nocenzi, appointed Ambassadors of the Youth Committee.
The first AIGU Assembly was open exclusively to the press, institutions and sector professionals. At the end of the two days of meetings, a Charter of Values of the Committee was drawn up and two national projects were defined, focusing on education, heritage enhancement, cultural entrepreneurship, technology and innovation.
